Anti-Flag <3

Posted in Recommendations on May 10, 2009 by Nienke

I only just realized that Anti-Flag’s putting out a new album the 9th of June :D
it’s called ‘The people or the gun’ and you can pre-order it on their site, for only 10 dollars, and for 20 dollars you get the cd/lp, a tshirt, a poster and an EP :O
shame that shipping is so expensive, it puts it on a total of 33 dollars…. still not that much for the stuff you get though so I’m really considering ordering it :D but you need a credit card so I’d have to ask my dad :P

also, if I put this banner right here I am in the race of winning an free tshirt (which I won’t really need if I order the lp-package but it’s always usefull to have 2 shirts: can wear the second if the first is dirty (a))

oh and if you click on the banner, there’s an link to the store :D I hope. I still don’t speak HTML fluently.  (also, the lay out of my blog has caused half of the banner to fall of the page :()
also, if you want to put the banner on your own site, either copy this link:<a href=”;current=af_banner.gif&#8221; target=”_blank”><img src=”; border=”0″ alt=”Photobucket” /></a>  on your site
or download the banner RIGHT HERE (I hope the right-click-save-as-method works here…. as I said, not fluent at HTML :P)

if you did that, you can sent an email with screenshot (or link to page?) to :D

suburban, expect an email from me soon ;)

also, my blog’s not getting much traffic at the moment. got any tips how I can get more? besides banner-actions like these xD

The Automatic

Posted in Gig Reviews, Other Music Stuff, Recommendations on December 22, 2008 by Nienke

YAY INSPIRATION or something.

sooo The Automatic! you probably don’t really know them but you must’ve heard MONSTER before
I just spammed about here on their forum (which I had been on quite a while before, I got to know them during the winter olympics in hurr.. 2006? was in the italian alps I believe. I got the clip stored on my computer (I’m on my laptop right now so I can’t access it..) or on one of my hard disks.. will try and upload it to youtube someday) so I thought I might write a bit on here! (I shouldn’t use those () thingies that much =P it makes my sentences long and hard to understand and read xD)

ANYWAYS I’ve got to learn to stay on subject for more than 2 seconds. The Automatic released their first album, Not Accepted Anywhere in 2006, when Alex Pennie (synth/screams) was still in the band. That was also the time that I fell in love with them! I first heard.. I think it was Raoul (who is actually a guy that sells sandwiches in cardiff =P). I got the album (downloaded. yeah sue me.) and played it LOTS of times! then I found out they were coming to the netherlands, not just once, not just twice, but 4 (hmm can’t do caps letters with numbers..) times! I went to the gig in Tivoli in Utrecht, with my (now ex)bf, and a girl I knew from secondary school, and a few of her friends (of which one I bumped into on lowlands in august, waiting in line to see Franz Ferdinand xD). We were like more than an hour early, so we just sat in front of Tivoli with some other people.. and suddenly, 4 guys walked past us. I think my jaw must’ve dropped into the Oudegracht as I saw that it were Rob, Frost, Iwan and uurhhr.. James (tour guy or something. dunnolol.) I think. so I was like.. ‘shall we walk to them and ask autographs and act fangirlish?’

so we did

well actually the walking turned into running while on our way to catch up to them as they were a bit ahead of us already. We had a little chat, of course I kinda freaked out and no real english word came out of my mouth but WHATEVER. we got our arms signed, and we got a photo =D will upload if I’ve got my laptop hooked up to the hard disk I talked about previously =P
A while after that another guy (n a girl) walked past.. and my friends were like ‘teeheee he looks like popeye’ and I believe my jaw dropped even deeper into the Oudegracht. they mistook Pennie for Popeye xD
I didn’t run after him.. he looked kinda moody and I didn’t want to bother him when he was with his girlfriend (?)
well a while after that we went inside, and I wanted to buy a tshirt. and WHO was selling those tshirts? PETER HILL! I had talked to him on myspace before, he’s the photographer (try and say that when you’re a tad nervous and when nerves eat your english knowledge) & a friend (and I just found out he’s tour manager now?) of the band! So I had a little chat with him, talked about ‘snorren’ and asked if we could draw one on his face. Shame he said he wasn’t drunk enough =P
Then he also signed our arm, he was like ‘wtf people asking me for autographs? makes no sense.’

Then the actual gig started! The support was by Silence is Sexy, a dutch band. They were pretty good, their guitarist was crazy! as in he looked crazy, I didn’t have enough knowledge of guitar-goodness by then to decide if he was really good at it =P
oh, just found my old photobucket account, there’re some gig photos on there =D not the band + me pic though =(
Ok bladibla, we had lots of fun, the friends my other friend brought were really fun ^^ AND THEN THE AUTOMATIC STARTED!!! they played pretty much all the songs of NAA I think, (yeah it was pretty long ago. 14 april 2007 I think) and 2 covers: Golddigga and a song by the Talking Heads (dunno the title, they sung something with ‘this aint no party, this aint no disco, this aint no foolin around) and there was a pit and I got bruised and we didn’t miss our train (which I did later, when i went to Lostprophets in Amsterdam. The last train leaves waaaay to early =[)
oh and I got the most epic gig-goody-souvenir: an towel, signed by pete =P it probably has the sweat of one of the band members on it xD
when I asked pete (he recognized me! but he still wasn’t drunk enough =P) for *something* that was left on stage, he was like ‘oh there’s a towel here.. but you don’t want that don’t you? ‘ ‘uh.. yeah..’  ‘gross. here you are!’  ‘can you sign it? =]’  ‘wtf.’  ^^
I asked him if we could come backstage too, he was like ‘hm well backstage isn’t that spectacular, there’s only like a room..’  ‘doesn’t matter’  ‘well if you stay around, I’ll see if I can arrange something for you..’  but since we didn’t want to miss our train we had to leave *sob*
goddamned trains. if it weren’t for them, I would’ve probably been backstage with the fucking automatic!!!

OK I wanted to write a cd review, of the Automatic’s latest album: This is a Fix! I haven’t even listened to it properly, I don’t understand why.. it probably has to do with Pennie leaving (he’s been replaced by Paul Mullen). I loved his squeaks and jumping around, his crazyness was great! I have to listen to it properly, I will write a review later, as this post is becoming WAAAAAY to long and most of you have probably stopped reading by now xD

cooool I have 1000 words! This is the end of my blog ;)

Radio 1’s Live Lounge with Jo Whiley

Posted in Recommendations on December 19, 2008 by Nienke

yaay, I just rediscovered the live lounge..

it’s aired at (british) radio 1, which I never really listened to, but youtube provides me with LOTS of songs ^^

it’s basically a known band that covers the song of a known band, and sometimes it sucks (*coughhiphopstuffcough*)

I’ll post some.. there are LOTS ‘n I’ll comment om them %D (oh yeah msn smileys don’t work in here =P)

Paramore – Love’s not a competition but I’m winning (Kaiser Chiefs)
aaah Hayley. You can’t NOT love her! she’s sooo freaking gorgeous, I’m not sure if I’m jealous or if I’m in love =P
Kaiser Chiefs are one of my fave bands (Paramore too, you could’ve guessed that)
DAMN this song is good! I’m gonna keep this blog to find the links, the songs are so good ^^

ohh I love the related video’s option..

Paramore covers Here You Me by Jimmy Eat World (crappy sound quality, or it’s the earphones I’m using. they’re grolsch’s =P)
yeah I’m not gonna review this one. I don’t reaaally know the original song *shame on me*

Kaiser Chiefs – Time To Pretend (MGMT)
As I said, KC rock! I’m not to thrilled about MGMT’s album, but Time to Pretend is a really good song actually. the vid is a bit weird (can’t be bothered to look it up right now…) but pretty funny (yaay cat rides are the best!)
The cover is really good, TOO good actually. it’s almost like a carbon copy!

Razorlight – No one Knows (Queens Of The Stone Age)
Hurr.. Razorlight has been pretty much my fave band, since I saw them on Live8 (on tv, wasn’t there =[ ) I fell in love with them.. Up all night will always be in my fave albums list, but they really dissapointed me with their second album, simply called Razorlight. urgh, I really detested that song ‘America’ that everyone loved so much.. now they’ve released their third studio album, Slipway Fires. I heard it like only once or twice so I can’t really give my opinion on that, but Wire to Wire is actually a GOOD song! Shame that Johnny looks SO gay in it!
ok, back on topic: this cover SUCKS. Johnny’s voice totally ruins the song, he’s trying to sound like Josh Homme but he FAILS. the instrumental part sounds awesome though, Carl, Björn and Andy actually did a good job ^^

Stereophonics – Best Of You (Foo Fighters)
ok I’m really curious for this one.. this is my fave song by the foo’s and I don’t really know the Stereophonics.. heard some good stuff bout them though..
sounds good so far; it’s an acoustic version, it kinda lacks the strength and energy Dave puts in the song, and I miss the electric guitars *sob*
ooh that reminds me, I got a funny pic of me sitting in front of the telly, and the video for best of you was on, and I just had my new camera, and I was singing along.. and *goes uploading*

James Morrison – Sex on Fire (Kings of Leon)
wooow, I’m a BIG fan of KOL! this song is sooooooo good.. and FUCK THEM because their gig in the HMH sold out already :'(
James Morrison, hm.. I loved this debut album (never got it, but the songs that were on telly/radio a lot were fucking good)
his voice is awesome, but I can’t see him singing KOL yet.. but it actually sounds good, the female voices on the background sound pretty nice too ^^
it’s really different from the original, and I think it’s really good! I don’t like excact covers if you know what I mean..

Corrine Bailey Rae – Golden Touch (Razorlight)
aww corrine. she’s so sweet! I already knew this song, I think it’s really funny! Golden Touch is one of the Golden Oldies of razorlight, gotta love this song! It was pretty much the first song I knew the WHOLE lyrics to. The song sounds really different when she sings it, but I like =] she makes her own version of it, and I can always appreciate that ^^ (well not ALLWAYS xD)

*ok I’ll do some more later, radio 1 pt 2 xD*

Oh and I’m off from school for 2 weeks now! not sure how I did on the exams, but my presentation today went really well =D I was fucking nervous, but I didn’t really mess up I think.. I remained pretty calm and the powerpoint actually looked good.. YAY

anyways for you, my readers, which are not many right now but I’m gonna improve that *spam*, it means that I’ll be posting more! well. probably not really more, cos I already posted every day… WHATEVER. I’ll also try to figure wordpress out more, so I can edit lay-out n stuff, I’m not really happy with it at the moment. I’ll also make a pretty header with photoshop if I got the time =)
yeah I know I have christmas holidays. but I got shitloads to do already =P I’m all filled up till newyears xD

Stone Sour

Posted in Recommendations on December 17, 2008 by Nienke

I just rediscovered them ^^
I listened a bit to them a while ago, around the time when ‘Through Glass’  (I LOVE this video, also notice the Hollywood letters in the background.. ;)) was released.. I didn’t really like them back then, too loud for my taste, but I did like through glass (goddamned MTV generation..
BUT since then I’ve evolved quite a bit music-wise, and since I liked Slipknots new album (well the songs I heard on MTV n stuff), I thought I might give Stone Sour another chance. AND I LOVE IT
I’ve had Trough Glass on repeat for a while now.. it’s one of the more mellow songs, but DAMN it’s so good.. If I ever gonna form a band i want to sing this song :)

oh, and I’ve also been thinking to start up a Poets of the Fall streetteam, I believe there’s no dutch one yet.. and since I’m spamming everyone with them already anyway, I might as well make it ‘official’ if you know what I mean =P

AND another good-news thingy: our home computer is being really sucky, my dad’s probably gonna buy a new one this weekend =D
BUT the best news is that he once bought a pretty good (I think..) set of boxes (like about 5 of those little ones, and a bigger subwoofer) and he’s like ‘meh we barely use them, and I hate the amout of cables that’s there’ so now I can have them YAY =D
only things I have to do is
a. unplug them from the computer
b. plug em into my recordplayer (like a proper vinylplayerthingy, with USB xD)
c. maybe buy my dad some new cheap crappy boxes, if he doesn’t get new ones with the new computer, or if we don’t have any boxes lying around somewhere. and it’s not like I’m ripping my dad off; he said it himself: he doesn’t really care much about the quality of the sound.. he’s becoming a bit deaf anyways xD

I’m looking at you through the glass

Don’t know how much time has past

All I know is that it feels like forever

But no one ever tells you

That forever feels like home

Sitting all alone inside your head

I have to learn to write lyrics myself.. and actually FINISH them and don’t write 27 pages (I counted them yesterdayeve) of a couple of lines that don’t fit together, OR that don’t rhyme. I know that the rhyme doesn’t really matter, but it sounds better when it does..

ok.. sorry for this..

I think I’ve made my point, right? :)
